Pitchfork Social: Mike Farris | Friday 19th | 7:30pm to 10:30pm | Bullock Lake Farm: 360 Upper Ganges Road | $35 | Mike Farris is a musical renaissance man. He has toured as the lead singer for the southern rock band Screaming Cheetah Wheelies and as the lead singer for the incomparable blues band, Double Trouble. In his solo career he began to rediscover and reinterpret traditional black spiritual music by adding his own mix of vintage southern soul. Farris has won the prestigious Americana Music Award for Best New & Emerging Artist, a Dove Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album of the Year and a 2015 Grammy award for Best Roots Gospel Album. Round Saltspring Race | Friday 19th to Sunday 21st | Race Start: 10:00am | Boats take off from Ganges Harbor | Cheer on participants as over 100 boats race around Salt Spring! A 40-minute musical theatre performance of ventriloquist’s puppet, Javanese gamelan, and live video score by Sammy Chien, this could be one of the most engaging philosophical treatises you will ever hear. Pitchfork Social: Richard Thompson | Wednesday 24th | 7:30pm to 10:30pm | Bullock Lake Farm: 360 Upper Ganges Road | $40 - $70 | Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Richard Thompson is also one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Songwriting from the Americana Music Association in Nashville and Britain’s BBC Awards as well as the prestigious Ivor Novello. In 2011, Thompson received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. In the USA Thompson has been nominated at the Americana Music Awards for both Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. Bring your binoculars and enjoy some superb bird-watching!
