  3. Ray has been performing and writing songs since the '60s. Well known for penning the words to "Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother," made famous by Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray has come from "the wild and wooly cosmic/outlaw Texas country scene of the '70s" to being "one of the most respected artists on the modern Americana scene." With special guests Gurf Morlix and Jeff Plankenhorn.
  4. Head down to Salt Spring Vineyards ( 151 Lee Road) for their Friday Wine Down from 4:00pm to 6:00pm or Sunday Afternoons in the Vineyard from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Bring a blanket, grab a bottle of wine and enjoy the summer among the vines as the music winds through the vineyard!
  5. Can't get enough of the Salt Spring Island music scene? Stop by the Tree House Cafe's Music Under the Stars with over one hundred days of music 7 days a week performed by a wide variety of artists! Sit under the namesake of this cafe and enjoy tunes paired with a meal packed with locally sourced ingredients!
  6. ArtSpring’s celebration of Canada’s 150 birthday “Salt Spring Stories” Gallery | August 11th to 22nd | Artspring: 100 Jackson Avenue | Salt Spring Stories by artists, Greg Klassen and Andrea Locke, presented by ArtSpring as a celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, consists of two main interconnected elements – images and text – designed not just to communicate our sense of wonder and awe at this amazing place but to provide a space for our community to come together and share in the stories of this place and its people and in the making of new stories that will unfold as we continue to move between past and future – always in the present.
  7. Speaking of stars, experience a night sky unparalleled in British Columbia on Salt Spring Island and watch the galaxy rain during the annual Persied Meteor Shower which peaks August 12th! See around 60 to 100 meteors per hour (depending on the moon, best seen before dawn) which originates near the constellation Perseus which can be found in the north-eastern part of the sky.
  8. All Aboard to Explore! Saturdays in July and August offer an opportunity to explore four southern Gulf Islands (or the other way around!) aboard the Gulf Islands Water Taxi - Route 1: Galiano Island and Mayne Island and Route 2: Pender Island and Saturna Island. Depart from Ganges Harbour and see why the Gulf Islands are considered one of the most beautiful places in Canada!
  9. PitchFork Social: Carrie Elkin & Danny Schmidt | Tuesday 15th | 7:30pm to 10:30pm | Bullock Lake Farm: 360 Upper Ganges Road | $25 | It's a special treat when Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin, who normally tour separately and solo, get to share the stage together.  If the chemistry seems especially sparkful, they come by it honestly, as they are a rare breed - a romantic partnership in real life and in their music life.  And the two together on stage makes for a classic case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
  10. PitchFork Social: Almost Willie Sugarcapps | Friday 19th | 7:30pm to 10:00pm | Bullock Lake Farm: 360 Upper Ganges Road | $40 | Birthed from a series of casual Southern Alabama songwriter-in-the-round jam sessions, Almost Willie Sugarcapps is an organic outgrowth of the chemistry between three distinct musicians, Will Kimbrough, Grayson Capps and Corkey Hughes (the “almost” is because Sugarcane Jane will not be joining the band on this leg of the tour).
  11. Partial Solar Eclipse | August 21st | 9:00am | Salt Spring will be located 0.9 magnitude for a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk (make sure to never look at a partial solar eclipse without proper eye protection!)
  12. The fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down! Visit Salt Spring Island's very own movie theatre, The Fritz Cinema (named after it's feline founder) to see the hottest summer blockbusters! From action packed thriller to family friendly stories there is something for every member of the family!
  13. Salt Spring Island Toy Run | Friday 25th to Sunday 27th | Farmer's Institute: 351 Rainbow Road | Help raise funds for toys at this weekend long extravaganza featuring a show and shine, a cross-Salt Spring Island motorcycle ride, entertainment, games, food, a beer garden and camping.
  14. Monty Python’s Spamalot | August 25th to 26th & August 30th to September 2nd7:30pm to 9:30pm | ArtSpring: 100 Jackson Avenue | $20 - $28 | ExitStageLeft presents the hilarious musical Monty Python’s Spamalot! It is “affectionately ripped off” from the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but Eric Idle and John du Prez added riotous send-ups of musical theatre for a rollicking evening of irreverent fun.
  15. Keep a lookout for an Orca Superpod! Orcas are enjoying their summer vacations in the Salish Sea and can sometimes be spotted in large numbers when crossing paths with other pods! Keep your eyes peeled on the ferries or along the coastlines of the Gulf Islands to catch a glimpse of these stunning whales.
