April 2016 Events on Salt Spring Island!

  1. April 2014: Fawn LilyWhodunnit? Celebrate April Fools with an evening of evening of mystery, murder, wine and cheese - not necessarily in that order- at the April Fools’ Murder Mystery Event at the Salt Spring Island Public Library (129 McPhillips Avenue) at 7:00pm - tickets go on sale on March 7th!
  2. April Showers? Don't let a little rain stop you! While away a couple of hours at Black Sheep Books in Grace Point Square in Ganges. This unique bookstore has charm and helpful staff ready to help you find the perfect read. Peruse vintage, collectible and secondhand books galore, then curl up on the sofa and get lost in to Flowers at the Saturday Marketyour purchase!
  3. Showers bring lots of flowers! Head to the trails of Ruckle Provincial Park and enjoy lots of beautiful wild flowers from Indian Pipe to Fawn Lily and more!

  6. Spring means baby animals... and baby goats and cows means milk for cheese! Visit Moonstruck Cheese (1306 Beddis Road) to sample its nine different cheeses and visit the new calves enjoying the pasture and the surrounding cherry blossoms. Winston, the world’s leading expert on bees and pollination and recent 2015 Governor-General’s Award-winner for his bestselling nonfiction book, Bee Time: Lessons From the Hive.

  9. Moonstruck CheeseGumboot Gala | Monday 18th | 7:00pm | Fulford Hall: 2591 Fulford-Ganges Road | Get your gumboots moving at the famous Gumboot Gala hosted by the Salt Spring Folk Club!
  10. Hear the frogs! Starting mid-March and at its loudest in April and May, if you're anywhere near a pond or lake, listen out for the nightly frog chorus of the Pacific Chorus Tree Frog. This little critter - their bodies measuring approximately an inch long - makes a surprisingly loud croak and when they get together it sounds like you're somewhere tropical!
