Farmers, Growers, Wild Gatherers
at the Salt Spring Market

Local farmers, growers and gatherers are the backbone of the Salt Spring market. The rural island community relies on market farmers for a regular supply of the best-tasting, freshest organic produce and fish products.

Each Saturday morning reveals an impressive array of lovingly hand-picked produce from local fields and gardens.

Since we own agricultural land, we feel that we have a responsibility to produce food for the community. We believe that locally organically produced food is best for the community for many reasons: for improving and sustaining the health of the community, for the care of the environment that such production requires, for the reduction of the reliance on oil that food grown locally can mean, and for the sense of community the production of food engenders.
